Psychological and counselling services are intended to support positive mental health and well-being, and for the treatment of mental, nervous or emotional conditions, such as stress, anxiety or trauma.
Every calendar year (January to December), you and your dependants each have a per person combined maximum of $1,000 (Enhanced) or $600 (Core) for psychological and counselling services, and assessment fees. Sessions, including telephone and video call sessions, will be covered up to $180 per psychology session (administered by a psychologist or other noted eligible provider) and $120 per counselling session (administered by an eligible counsellor). Assessments will be covered to a maximum of $300 per assessment.
Please note: Group/family psychology and counselling services are covered and prorated based on the number of patients attending.
Requirement(s):
Services must be provided by any of the following:
- registered psychologist, a person holding a Master of Social Work degree, or a provisional psychologist (under the supervision of a registered psychologist), in good standing with a recognized association in their province, territory, or state of practice. For instance, an Alberta psychologist must be registered with one of the following associations:

- Alberta College of Social Workers
- registered counsellor, in good standing, with one of the following associations:

- National Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association
- Canadian Professional Counsellors Association
- National Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada
- National Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists
Receipts for claim submissions must include the:
- provider’s name, address, and credentials (note: in cases of provisional psychologists, the name of the supervising psychologist must also be included
- amount being charged for each session
- amount being charged per assessment (if applicable) as a separate line item, and
- each patient’s name if more than one person is attending a session
Exclusion(s):
- No more than one session per day (per person)
